Day 1 – Tuesday: “Where are we?”
We gathered at Mount Hermon at 6:30
this morning in varying states of being awake. After
loading the bus, saying good-byes, and a group
prayer we were on the road. We enjoyed lunch in
mid-town Atlanta at the Varsity the classic
landmark, where we enjoyed chilidogs, burgers and
onion rings. We got some great pictures in front
with our gathering t-shirts and Varsity hats. We
didn’t stand out at all!
After lunch we had some quiet
reflection time. The advisors did a great job
putting booklets together for journaling, devotions,
and prayer. We continue to ground this experience in
reflection and prayer.
At the Alabama state line welcome
center, we ran into a group from St. Peter’s
Lutheran Church in Chapin. Pastor Eric has been in
touch with some of his pastor friends to find out
where they are and where they are staying. Youth
groups are traveling by planes, trains, buses, and
vans. I think we will continue to run into groups as
we travel, especially as we get to Mobile where we
spend the night. All Roads Lead to New Orleans.
Today we have been truly
surrounded by the support, love, and prayers of
Mount Hermon. The bus is decorated compliments of
the Children’s Sunday School. We have a trip map
with a “You Are Here” post-it, where we have been
updating our location so the youth know where we
are.
We were especially excited about
the goodie bags from the Kairos, Koinonia, and
Journey’s Sunday School classes given out today. The
advisors had asked each Sunday school class to take
a day to pray for us, and to provide a reminder of
their prayers. They were overwhelmed at the response
they received. Some provided “travel” treat bags, so
some were given out today instead of waiting for the
prayer day so they could be enjoyed on the trip –
and they have been.
We’ve made it to our hotel outside
of Mobile, enjoyed a good, quiet supper together,
devotions, some free time, and turn in to get ready
to head to New Orleans in the morning.
Next post will be from the banks
of the Mississippi in downtown New Orleans!
Peace,
Mount Hermon LCY
